Leavitt’s Farmer’s Almanac
In the late 19th century, Dudley Leavitt (1767-1839), teacher of mathematics and astronomy, published Leavitt’s Farmer’s Almanac, clearly a competitor with the Old Farmer’s Almanac. He was assisted in the astronomical calculations needed by farmers by his nephew, William B. Leavitt (1812-1895), a professor of practical astronomy. The Grantham Town Archives has a number of issues of the almanac, the earliest dated 1841.
