Welcome to the Grantham Historical Society website. An important part of the society’s mission is the promotion of the town’s considerable history and helping people to understand its importance. Our website is an essential tool for this purpose. On it you will find our mission, a brief history of the town, news and events, plus links to genealogy, publications, our small but growing library, and membership information. Like the organization itself, the website will evolve over time to include audio/visual presentations, video and relevant historical publications, much of which we hope to make available for download. Please come back often, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Exemplary Country Estates of New Hampshire
Thursday, May 21
Lower level of Grantham Town Hall
- Potluck: 6 p.m.
- Short business meeting: 6:45 p.m.
- Speaker: 7 p.m.
Join the Grantham Historical Society and the NH Humanities Council for a program on 19th and early 20th century country estates in New Hampshire. In the early 20th century, the New Hampshire Board of Agriculture launched a program to boost rural economy and promote tourism through the sale of abandoned farms to summer residents. Cristina Ashjian, an art historian and independent scholar, will discuss which estates were recognized as exemplary. See if you can recognize any of the historic estates in the images and texts. Light refreshments following presentation; free and open to the public.
